Pomme de Terre 2011

We would like to Congratulate all of our athletes that fenced in thePomme de Terre this past weekend.

The Pomme de Terre is one of the largest tournaments in the Northeast. With over 500 entries it becomes a very exciting event.

Over the weekend, our Asst. Coach, Will Barnhart earned his B rating in Epee and re-earned his B rating in Foil! Ian Shultis not only did a great job fencing Saber on Saturday, he also directed several bouts on Sunday, including many semi-finals.

We had a some of our Teen students fence in the Pomme de Terre, Andy Zito, Vincenzo Agostaro, Russell Brearley, Ted Nalesnik and Jacob Shultis. All of these fencers had a great time participating and fenced very well.

Saturday evening, Team Phoenix went out and explored Waltham, Ma. We found a great restaurant, The Watch City Brewery, which offered a variety of moderately priced meals. One of the more notable menu items was the Tick Tock, a deep fried cheese burger!

We would like to once again congratulate everyone who participated this weekend. Also, we would like to Thank all of the parents and family members who made it out to support and cheer for the athletes.

Results from this tournament should be up on askFRED.net soon. We are also in the process of uploading the weekends videos to ourYoutube channel.

Y14 and U16 Qualifier Results

The Phoenix Center’s fencers did very well this past weekend qualifying all of our fencers for Y14 and U16 events at the 2010 Summer National Championships. The qualifiers were held up in Schenectady at Capital District Fencing School. Participants from our club included Russell Brearley, James Dolan, Jacob Shultis, and Tristan Dubin.

Jacob Shultis qualified for Y14 Men’s Epee and Foil. Jake also qualified for U16 Men’s Epee.

James Dolan and Russell Brearley both qualified for Y14 and U16 Men’s Foil.

Tristan Dubin qualified for U16 Men’s Saber.

We are very proud of our fencers and encourage them to train hard as Summer Nationals approaches. The competition will be tough there, but if we keep working smart and keep working hard we will do well.

The Div 2, Div 3, and Team Qualifiers will take place on April 18, 2010. Fencers must be 13 or older to participate in the Div 2/3/Team qualifier. Div 3 fencers must be rated D or lower at the time of the qualifier, Div 2 fencers must be rated C or lower at the time of the qualifier, and the Team Qualifier is for all teams from the same club who wish to fence at Summer Nationals.
